                   Geoffrey Dunn, MD

Speaker

Geoffrey P. Dunn, MD, FACS , a native of Erie, was educated at the Groton School and Haverford College (BA in religion). Painting has long been an important activity in Dunn’s life, and prior to his enrollment in medical school he received training in the studios of Andrew Saunders and Charles Stegeman. Following medical school at Thomas Jefferson University he served as Resident and Chief Resident with the Harvard Surgical Service, New England Deaconess Hospital. He was Chairman of the Department of Surgery at  Hamot Medical Center before he began working full time in the field of palliative and hospice care. Since 1997 his work has focused on the education of surgeons nationally and internationally about the principles and practice of palliative care in the setting of serious and life-limiting surgical illness. Dr. Dunn retired from clinical practice in May 2018 and is currently Emeritus status in the Department of Surgery, UPMC Hamot. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
